Chiefs MNF Recap

This was easily one of the best regular-season games of all time, and a reminder of what exciting football looks like. Unfortunately for (9-2) Kansas City, they were on the losing end of this 54-51 deathmatch with the Rams.

On offense, Pat Mahomes had a really high:low game in that he set a career high in passing yards (478) and tied his career high in touchdowns (6), but also set his career high in interceptions (3) and fumbles (2). There was a lot of factors that lead to this loss for KC, but the overarching problem was Mahomes’s turnovers because every single one of them lead to points for LA except for the game ending INT. Kareem Hunt totaled 11 yards and one score through the air, and WIDE RECEIVER Tyreek Hill totalled 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also, despite what Jason Witten might have you think with his commentary, Travis Kelce absolutely dominated the Rams secondary with 10 receptions for 127 yards and a score. My favorite star wars superfan Chris Conley added 2 scores and 74 yards as well. The offensive line held up about as well as they could vs the monstrous LA line, only allowing 3 sacks and 5 hits on Mahomes.

On defense, they had some big plays but zero consistency. Orlando Scandrick remains one of the worst corners in the NFL, bungling play after play including dropping what looked like an easy interception that would have ended the game. Chris Jones had a sack for what is now the 2000th game in a row, totalling 2 by the end of the game. Justin Houston, who has revitalized this pass rush, added one as well, and so did Allen Bailey and Xavier Williams. 5 sacks and 8 pressures is pretty damn good vs what has so far this season been a decent offensive line for LA. Bailey also recovered 2 fumbles, forcing one and taking Houston’s to the house for a score. The big issue is that secondary couldn’t cover for shit. Daniel Sorensen and Orlando Scandrick=BAD.

Takeaways: They got pretty badly fucked by the “All-Star” officiated crew early on. They took 9 penalties before the Rams took one, and the officials missed a number of calls as well.

Not saying, just presenting. The defense is playing way better in pass rush with the Houston-Ford combo back, but they can’t be depended on to bail out poor linebackers and terrible secondary play. For Mahomes, this was probably his worst game of the year from a decision making standpoint as well a solid reminder that he is still only 23 years old. Something I need to make very clear as well: Marcus Peters is not good. Witten acted like he was the best corner of all time and the Chiefs traded him because of his personality. Simply not the case. He had a gifted interception and was torn up for the most part the whole night.

Notes: Watkins played hurt, and only had a single reception for 4 yards. The Chiefs go into a Bye this week, followed by smashing Oakland.
